SQL 2005: It's time to use 64 bit now!

  1. Literally all server hareware is already 64bit ready, like AMD x64 and Intel EMT64.
  2. 64-bit literally provides unlimited memory support. Windows 2003 SP1 (Enterprise edition) can address up to terra bytes of physical memory. Administrator can add memory on the fly without having to restart or reconfigure SQL 2005 server.
  3. 64-bit I/O can have much better I/O throughput as compared to a similarly configured 32-bit based system.
  4. 64-bit server can participate in cross server functionalities like replication, database mirroring etc.
